Ever wanted to create your own wiki cms? Now you can easily make one with using one of these 14 free content management systems for wiki.

1. WikkaWiki

WikkaWiki may not be known due to its modest feature set, it is one of the swiftest CMSs coded in PHP to date. Its speed and ease of use are remarkable, and if you plan to create a small wiki site that may not require heavy CMSs, you should consider WikkaWiki as an option. It uses MySQL databases to store information.

2. JAMWiki

JAMWiki is a JAVA clone of MediaWiki. Thus, it uses the same syntax as MediaWiki and is one of the leading wiki CMSs coded in JAVA.

3. ScrewTurn Wiki

ScrewTurn Wiki allows you to create, manage and share wikis. A wiki is a collaboratively-edited, information-centered website: the most famous is Wikipedia.

4. Foswiki

Foswiki is a wiki, so you and your team members can collaborate and edit pages directly in the web browser. For advanced collaboration, Foswiki lets you enter macros to automate pages and build entire applications from within your browser.

5. MediaWiki

MediaWiki is used by Wikipedia as well as many other projects of Wikipedia’s parent organization Mediawiki Foundation. If you’re looking for a CMS for your wiki website, MediaWiki should be your safest bet! Not only is the CMS powerful, it is also very versatile and is ideal for any sort of wiki website.

6. Zoho Wiki

Encourage individuals to participate and share information. Create workspaces for teams, projects and ensure everyone stays on the same page.Keep information private or share it with your group or organization.

7. DokuWiki

DokuWiki is a standards compliant, simple to use Wiki, mainly aimed at creating documentation of any kind. It is targeted at developer teams, workgroups and small companies.

8. Twiki

TWiki is a flexible, powerful, and easy to use enterprise wiki, enterprise collaboration platform, and web application platform. It is a Structured Wiki, typically used to run a project development space, a document management system, a knowledge base, or any other groupware tool, on an intranet, extranet or the Internet. Users without programming skills can create web applications.

9. Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware

Tiki is a powerful, web-based application, created by a large team of contributors. Tiki is the ideal tool for you to build and maintain your Website/Wiki/Groupware/CMS/Forum/Blog/Bug Tracker or any other project you can imagine running in your browser window.

10. PhpWiki

PhpWiki is another versatile wiki CMS. Unlike DokuWiki, it uses databases to store the information and is therefore, a slightly bulkier CMS. If you are looking for a nimble wiki CMS, PhpWiki might not suit your purpose. However, overall the CMS is a worthy competitor to all the others in the game.

11. Canvas ColdFusion Wiki

Canvas is a ColdFusion Wiki built to allow for community-based editing of content. It follows basic Wiki standards by allowing anyone to edit content, while keeping careful track of the history of each document added to the Wiki. Canvas was built using Model-Glue.

12. XWiki

The XWiki project offers both a generic platform for developing collaborative applications using the wiki paradigm and products developed on top of it. All XWiki software is developed in Java and under the LGPL open source license.

13. Enterprise Wiki

14. MoinMoin

MoinMoin is an advanced, easy to use and extensible WikiEngine with a large community of users. Said in a few words, it is about collaboration on easily editable web pages.

While you’re spring-cleaning your home, why not give your website an overhaul too? Even if you love the design, there’s probably technical things that can be improved. Does your site load quickly? Does it have any broken links? When was the last time you updated the CMS? It’s always a good idea to give your site a health check – broken links, insecure plugins, and slow loading times can cause all kinds of headaches for your business – damaging your reputation, reducing your search engine rankings, and putting your customer’s private data at risk.

Here’s a few tips to help you get your site in good shape:

Check for broken links: This is one area where Google’s webmaster tools can be invaluable. If you find any broken links, fix them immediately. Also, if you don’t have a custom 404 page (that will be displayed when a user tries to visit a page that doesn’t exist), set one up. You’d be amazed how many visitors type the wrong URL, but will stay on your page if you present them with some interesting links on the 404 page.

Check your loading times: The YSlow plugin for Firefox is useful for identifying problems that may be making your pages take a long time to load. People are impatient these days, so the quicker your site loads, the better.

Update your CMS: If you use a standard CMS (rather than something custom written), then you should keep it up to date at all times. Patches don’t just add new features, they also fix bugs and include vital security improvements.

Validate your code: Use the W3C validator to test your code and fix any errors that crop up.

Check your Meta tags: Good Title and Meta Description tags will help your site to look more appealing to visitors coming via popular search engines. If you’re not sure what you should put in your Meta tags, or how to change them, ask an expert at a search engine optimisation agency for some tips.

Proof-read your content: Spelling mistakes are a huge red flag to customers. Even if you had your content proof-read when it was first put up, look at it again to make sure no mistakes went un-noticed last time.

Hire a search engine optimisation agency: Once you have a fast loading, error free site, you’ll have done the ground work that will help an online marketing company to improve your search engine rankings. Don’t just rush straight to this stage – make sure your site works well before you promote it.

Add social features: Your online marketing company will probably do a lot of social work. If you add social networking buttons to your site it will be easier for your visitors to continue up-voting/sharing/talking about your site.

Show, don’t tell: Start using more pictures in your content. Make sure you use accessibility tags so that your site will still work with screen readers, though.

10. Check your calls to action: If your pages aren’t converting well, make sure you’re telling your customers what you want them to do, and showing a compelling reason for them to do it. Don’t just say “we have a new mailing list” – ask them to “sign up today for advance notice of special offers!” You should see a huge improvement in conversions if you do this.

Open Source ECommerce CMS are nowadays being used to create websites which can let you sell your product online the easy way. In this post I’ve i would like to present you 16 open source content management system for ecommerce.

osCommerce

osCommerce is absolutely free under the GNU General Public License and caters very well to most people’s needs. Unsurprisingly, considering how easy it is to set up and run, it’s extremely popular, powering over 228,700 online stores. Such popularity does come with a significant downside however- it makes it harder for you to differentiate your store from the thousands of others out there. If you want to stand out from the crowd, you’re going to need to use some of the 5,800 add-ons available, some of which cost money.

OpenCart

Not only does OpenCart look great, it’s extremely scalable. You can create an unlimited number of categories, sell an unlimited number of products, accept multiple currencies, use multiple languages, and choose from over 20 payment and 8 shipping methods. It’s user-friendly and search-engine-friendly too, so will help your prominence in Google. Customers can even review and rate the items you sell. It’s not as popular as osCommerce, so help and guidance is not so freely available, but it’s a darn sight better looking.

Magento

You’ve only got to look at Magento’s client list to realise what an excellent piece of open-source software it is. Samsung, The North Face, Stussy and Nespresso all use it to power their online stores. It’s used by 30,000 merchants and is the world’s fastest growing ecommerce platform. You have to pay for the Enterprise Edition, which is packed full of extremely useful features, but the Community Edition, meant for developers only, is free to download and use

CubeCart

CubeCart is a complete ecommerce shopping cart software solution. With CubeCart you can quickly setup a powerful online store to sell digital or tangible products to new and existing customers globally.

VirtueMart

VirtueMart is an Open Source E-Commerce solution to be used together with a Content Management System (CMS) called Joomla!. Joomla! and VirtueMart are written in PHP and can be used in typical PHP/MySQL environments.

PrestaShop

PrestaShop is the first E-Commerce project to be granted the Open-Source Award. Download the No.1 Open-Source software in France and in Europe now, join more than 275,000 members in the Community, and experience the ease of use and management of this innovative solution, for a profitable e-commerce business !

Spree Commerce

Spree is an open-source ecommerce platform for Ruby on Rails. Using Spree’s extension system, you’ll be able to customise your store and mark yourself out from your competitors. Useful features include support for over 50 payment gateways, single page checkout and custom tax logic, which can save merchants lots of time and effort. It also comes with Google Analytics built in.

Ubercart

Ubercart is specifically designed for people selling things like file downloads, event registrations, website access passes and event tickets, rather than physical products. Like VirtueMart, which must be integrated with Joomla!, Ubercart must be integrated with Drupal. Drupal users will feel comfortable choosing the ideal modules and themes to customise their shop with, but if you’re not a Drupal user, I suggest choosing a platform that’s a little more straightforward.

Avactis

Easy & Powerful Storefront Customization. Avactis Shopping Cart allows you quick and easy storefront customization to create just the right design for your web site.Simple Integration with Existing Web Site. Avactis online store can be easily integrated into an existing website without any need for any programming skills.Easy-to-understand, web-based Installation Wizard.

Zen Cart

Easy to install, easy to customise and easy to manage, Zen Cart is perfect for those who want a straightforward ecommerce platform without the fuss. It comes with a newsletter manager, discount coupons, gift certificates and all the basic features you’d expect. Users can make the most of the numerous add-ons available to customise their store and make their admin experience a little easier. Too many add-ons, however, and the UI does get rather cluttered, which is a downside of the platform.

Zeuscart

The best thing about Zeuscart is its user interface, which is rich, attractive, user-friendly and generally less boring than most of the open-source UIs that I have to look at on a daily basis. Designed with small and medium businesses in mind, users can make the most of SEO friendly URLs, gift cards, discounts, email templates and tier-pricing, which makes it possible to decrease prices for bulk orders.

StoreSprite

Despite being completely free, StoreSprite offers many features that you’d expect to find only on paid-for and more popular platforms. These include loyalty points, customer ratings and reviews, status notifications, order tracking, special offers, best sellers and shopper accounts. The main drawback of the platform is that your store will come with visible StoreSprite copyright notices, unless you pay to have them removed.

RokQuickCart

RokQuickCart is a very, very simple cart for Joomla!. Its simplicity, however, is both a help and a hindrance as although it can be set up in minutes, it lacks some features which you’ll find in other platforms in this list, for example, it only accepts payments through PayPal and Google Checkout. Having said that, it generally looks good and product image display is impressive.

Tomato Cart

TomatoCart is the new generation of open source shopping cart solution. It is branched from osCommerce 3 as a separate project. As web applications become more and more sophisticated, modern web 2.0 technology such as Ajax and Rich Internet Applications offers significant usability improvements and makes interacting with the web interfaces faster and more efficient.

SimpleCart js

SimpleCart(js) 2.0 is no longer only for Paypal. It now works with Google Checkout as well. You can now add increment, decrement, and remove buttons to your cart. You can also rearrange items, change the HTML tags, do whatever you like to display your cart how you want. No databases, no programming, no headaches. A simple javascript shopping cart in under 20kb that you can setup in minutes. It’s lightweight, fast, simple to use, and completely customizable. All you need to know is basic HTML.

Afcommerce

If you want to keep your ecommerce platform really, really simple, then Afcommerce could be the option for you. It’s not particularly good looking, neither on the customer nor the user side, but it works right out of the box and is ideal for beginners. It has a speedy one-page checkout, customer help pop-up windows and customer accounts are generated automatically from orders.

WordPress, Joomla and Drupal are three of the top Content Management Systems (CMS) used to build a website. A CMS is software that is installed on web space and used to create a website. Using a CMS lets you add your own HTML content to different pages for a customized website without building it from scratch. You can build an impressive website using a CMS without any prior knowledge of programming, but you will need to know basic HTML.

WordPress began as a blog publishing software, but has grown to be a complete CMS program with many of the same features as Joomla and Drupal. All three of these programs are open source programs, which means they are free to use and customize. Each program has its own community of developers devoted to upgrading and adding extensions. In addition, support is available from the community, so even if you don’t have experience with a CMS, you can ask for help or find a previously released extension for your needs.

Drupal

If you prefer to code by hand rather than using an editor, Drupal is the CMS for you. It is more popular among those with programming experience than it is with those new to web development. Since the community is made up of mainly web developers, help is available for complex websites. Hand-coding also gives you the flexibility to create a feature-rich custom website rather than relying on premade extensions and plugins.

Drupal’s interface is not as user-friendly as other CMS’s because it is designed for web developers rather than the casual or new designer. Unless you have a lot of experience with Drupal and programming, publishing can be frustrating and time-consuming.

Joomla

Joomla is the favorite open source software among web developers because it has so many possibilities for customizing a website. It offers more freedom when creating a website than do other open source CMS’s. There is a large community of users sharing support and extensions to use to create your website.

Joomla is not a very user-friendly program, so it is not the best option for new web developers. If you do not have prior experience coding and designing websites, it can be confusing and hard to implement. Joomla does have a learning curve, but if you are willing to use tutorials to help you learn, you can great a feature-rich website by yourself.

WordPress

WordPress is perhaps the most popular CMS because it has been available for bloggers before it was turned into a CMS. The latest versions allow you to create a static page, so it is easy to use this program as a website development tool. WordPress has an easy to use interface and is easy to customize to fit the needs of your website. There are thousands of widgets and plugins available for a variety of web applications. WordPress is one of the easiest CMS programs for new web developers because it is easy to install and easy to use.

WordPress has a smaller community than either Drupal or Joomla, so you may not find be able to find the help you need. In addition, upgrades and plugins can cause your website to not work properly or worse, disappear completely.

The best CMS for you and your website depends on your level of programming knowledge and what features you want to implement. Websites with basic features can be built in WordPress or Joomla, but Drupal makes a better choice for very elaborate websites. However, Drupal has a larger learning curve and can be frustrating if you are a new web developer.

Many people are under the mistaken impression that WordPress is only for blogs. Actually, that is where WordPress began; however, WordPress is now the perfect place for a newly designed or redesigned website. WordPress affords users ease of both use and functionality of the content management system (CMS). WordPress website users have more control of their server files, themes, plugins, source codes and much more. Users can also import their .com sites to their self-hosted site. Another benefit of using WordPress is that it is almost totally free. Adding pictures and videos are simple on WordPress. Of course, incorporating and creating a blog can be done in a matter of just a few minutes.

Many users of WordPress will be pleased to find out that hundreds of page themes are free, and there are more specialized page themes for a very small fee. These themes are easy to install and there is a multiple user access with control permissions. WordPress offers search engine optimization (SEO) friendly coding. It is very easy to adapt to without any needed support. WordPress is famous for its 5 minute installation. That is hardly a time investment and well worth trying WordPress for your website needs.

Another thing that is great about WordPress is that you are able to maintain your search rankings nearly 100% of the time. If a website is migrated to WordPress, search engines and robots will be able to easily access the site. WordPress is very favorable among website users. These users really like the available plugins. WordPress is known to have an extremely large plug-in base. Plugins help users achieve a number of CMS customizations. New plugins are frequently made available. This allows for the specific and continuing needs of those interested in migrating to WordPress. All of these wonderful features make using WordPress a very attractive choice for so many.

WordPress has a very large community that can offer advice about plugin identification and their many uses, as well as advice on the CMS. Not that anyone should need CMS advice, since WordPress makes it so simple. However, in the case that they do, it’s there for them. As with most of the options in WordPress, upgrading is made so simple. Each version released is thoroughly tested and includes additional functionality and security features. WordPress is so flexible and easy to implement almost any application. This makes WordPress such a powerful, attractive option for users. Creativity and imagination are unlimited when choosing to use WordPress website needs. Client satisfaction is vast with WordPress. That is not surprising considering they get so much for so little in the way of cost and time. Users are able to create and manage amazing websites with little or no web development experience. That in and of itself, is truly a beautiful thing.

Without a doubt, WordPress is above its competitors. The benefits are obvious. Prior to the high functionality and the easy operation of the WordPress CMS, users had to be well versed in HTML, PHP and CSS in order to manually create, organize and upload different web pages. WordPress is extremely user friendly. Other content management systems brag about their vast list of features, but more often than not, they are extremely complicated to use. WordPress actually realizes the goal of endless features without the complications. After migrating to WordPress, web site users will immediately notice the power of WordPress through their own ability to use it in so many ways.
